Raw Materials and Tools

Bamboo (Bambusa pallida or Bambusa assamica), cutting knife, drill for hole-making, and sandpaper for polishing.

Process

Artisans select specific bamboo species—locally known as Owajlaw and Owathare— valued for their acoustic properties. A bamboo piece measuring 27–29 inches is cut and dried. Five finger holes and one blowing hole are meticulously drilled. The flute is then polished to enhance its appearance and sound quality.

Design and Color

The Sifung is a 27–29 inch long bamboo flute featuring five equidistant finger holes and one blowing hole. Its natural bamboo color is preserved, offering an authentic and minimalist aesthetic.
